Youth Health Advocates (YHAs) promote youth wellness (ages 13-24), risk behavior change, and self-responsibility through education and outreach. Must demonstrate professional behavior and the ability to serve as influencers within their social networks. Ideal candidates advocate for the best interests of young people and demonstrate the capacity to competently assess the needs of their adolescent and young adult peers.

Education: High School Student, OUT of HS, Graduated HS , 2nd Semester Freshmen in College

​

Audience providing information too:

  • At risk and/or HIV positive youth ages 13-24

  • POC (People of Color)

  • Women

  • LGBTQ+ (identities included but are not limited to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning)

 

Responsibilities:

  • Attends all L.O.L. training and orientation activities;

  • Demonstrates self-motivation and commitment to the position by attending mandatory weekly meetings Tuesday, Wednesday 3:30-6:00 (could change due to availability) ;

  • Demonstrates the ability to complete project tasks as a member of a committee and to independently manage the responsibilities of their position;

  • Recruits and engages peers in program services through outreach, social media, presentations, etc. and advocates for youth wellness;

  • Shows comfort in discussing sexuality and risk reduction in relation to HIV/STIs and teen pregnancy in a sensitive and appropriate manner;

  • Uses creative strategies to teach youth peers about wellness and the importance of taking responsibility for one’s own health

Part-time, Contract

Salary: $14.00 /hour

​

Experience:

  • Teamwork: 1 year (Preferred)

  • Public Speaking: 1 year (Preferred)
